KISHTWAR, Feb 25: The Kishtwar-Doda-Batote highway remained closed since early morning due to landslide at Drabshalla.
The highway was closed for vehicular movement following major landslide today early morning. The officials of the Rural and Building (R&B) Department rushed to the spot and brought compressor as the landslide could be removed through blasting.
Ironically, the compressor did not started, which raised manifold questions on the preparedness of the department during the ongoing winter season.
Hundreds of vehicles, including passenger vehicles and trucks were stranded on the highway. The stranded persons were demanding immediate restoration of the highway. Some people crossed the landslide hit Drabshalla area on foot to reach their destiny.
The sudden closure of the road forced thousands of passengers to halt at several places on the highway from Kishtwar to Batote.
When contacted, Mohinder Sen, XEn, R&B Department said that another compressor has been managed from Thathri. “Men and machinery are on job and the highway will be restored by tomorrow”, he added.
