Khalida of JKP wins gold for India in Lusofonia International Games

JAMMU, Jan 29: Ace wushuist Khalida Banoo of Jammu and Kashmir Police made India proud by winning gold in the discipline of wushu in 3rd Lusofonia International Games at Nehru Stadium, Panaji in Goa, today.
Khalida defeated Portuguese player Ana Fernandes by 2-0 in the thrilling summit clash.
Earlier, Khalida Banoo defeated Brazil wushuist in the semifinals. After winning silver medal in 21st Senior National Wushu Championship held in Kolkota in 2013, Banoo was selected for Lusofonia International Games. She also bagged 1 bronze, 1 silver and 1 gold medal in All India Police Games held in the year 2011, 2012 and 2013 respectively.
Over 3000 athletes from 12 nations including founder members Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, East Timor, Equatorial Guinea, Guinea- Bissau, India, China, Mozambique, Portugal, Sao Tome and Principe and Sri Lanka competed in the sports of Athletics, Basketball, Football, Judo, Taekwondo, Table Tennis, Volleyball, Beach Volleyball and Wushu.
The Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Armed J&K, SM Sahai and Director SSG HK Lohia, who is also president of J&K Wushu Association have lauded the efforts of Khalida for this achievement. Kuldeep Handoo is coach of the gritty player, who has kept State’s flag high at the International scene.
