UDHAMPUR, Dec 3: BJP State general secretary, Pawan Khajuria today assured the farmers of various villages of Udhampur that he will take up the issue of the compensation for their land lying with Army for years together with the Union Government.
He, while addressing a meeting of farmers at Kaleday Mohalla in Gadhi area near here drawn from different villages whose land has been under the Army control said that he will seek the intervention of Union Minister of State in PMO, Dr Jitendra Singh who is also MP of Kathua, Udhampur and Doda constituencies in this regard.
The meeting was held under the leadership of Farmers Action Committee president, Bodh Raj. The farmers said that their demand is concerning to the land which is under occupation of Army for many years and for which they have not been paid adequate compensation as per the status of the land.  They said they were assured to provide job to one member of each family and this too was not conceded.
The farmers said that only false promises were made with them over the years but to no avail.
The farmers asked Khajuria to highlight their demand with concerned quarters as he has done earlier.
Later Khajuria held a meeting with the people of Mohalla Kaledey who demanded construction of lane and culvert in the area which has not been constructed during last 40 years.
He informed the people that the problem will be solved soon and after the construction of lane first culvert will also be constructed later.
