KATHUA, Dec 15: The residents of village Kerrian Gandyal near here in large number including the women led by Ravi River Action Committee,  President, Mohinder Pal  and BJP district president, Prem Nath Dogra held protest demonstration in front of DC Office complex here, today against the Mining Department and Pollution Control Board (PCB) for their failure in controlling the illegal mining in Ravi river.
They accused the Board of keeping its eyes closed against the hazardous pollution due to stone crusher in Kerrian-Gandyal area. The protesters also submitted a memorandum to Deputy Commissioner, Kathua, Rohit Khajuria about the frequent illegal mining in Ravi river under the nose of administration. They raised the slogans against the State Government and concerning Departments responsible for criminal silence on the burning issues of environment pollution.

The President of Committee, Mohinder Pal alleged that despite the repeated complaints made against the Geology and Mining Department and Pollution Control Board, there is no check and action taken by the concerned Department to control the illegal mining. He said that maximum numbers of stone crushers are running illegally with the consent of District Mining Department and other concerning departments. The protestors warned the Government to face consequences if they fail to stop illegal mining posing threat to environment and affected the population of Kerrian -Gandyal.
BJP district president, Prem Nath Dogra alleged that a nexus is operating in this connection. Despite the deputation met with Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti at Kathua , no action has been so far taken by the Government and the National Green Tribunal (NGT) is also not taking this matter in consideration, he added. He alleged that why the State Government is mum on the increasing environmental threat.
The stone crushers have no threat of any Department of State and even no one from Government dares to put hands on the illegal mining.
