Kavita Suri nominated as member of State Women Commission

JAMMU, Oct 21: Government has nominated Dr. Kavita Suri, academician and renowned journalist as member of J&K State Women Commission.
An order to this effect was issued here yesterday.
Dr. Suri, who is presently working as Director and Head of the Department of Lifelong Learning, University of Jammu, has been working on women’s issues for the past 20 years. She spent 14 years of her professional life as a journalist covering conflict in Jammu and Kashmir, writing and researching extensively on women’s issues in all the three regions of the State.
Two of her five books that she has written in the past one decade, entitled “Voices Unheard – Women, Conflict and Kashmir” and “Impact of violence on girls’ education in Kashmir valley” clearly reflect the issues faced by women in the State of Jammu and Kashmir.
A PhD in Education from the University of Jammu, she is a recipient of a number of fellowships and awards including UGC Minor Research Fellowship on “A study of Gujjar drop out girls in the twin border districts of Poonch and Rajouri”, British Chevening Print Journalists’ fellowship at the University of Westminster, London, Charkha-Sanjoy Ghose media fellowship for the women journalists working in areas of conflict on the theme ‘Women and peace building in Kashmir” and US International Visitors Exchange Fellowship Program.
She has authored five books and has published over 50 research.
