Kavinder for streamlining public transport in Jammu city

JAMMU, Dec 1: Speaker Legislative Assembly Kavinder Gupta today called for streamlining the public transport in Jammu city and its outskirts.
The Speaker was speaking at a meeting of the senior officials of the Transport Department convened to discuss the mobility plan for Jammu city.
Commissioner Secretary Transport Department Bipul Pathak, Transport Commissioner Vineeta Gupta besides Regional Transport Officer Ashwani Khajuria were present in the meeting.
Stressing the need for urgent reassessment of public transport infrastructure in the city, Kavinder Gupta asked the department to undertake necessary measures to upgrade the mobility plan in accordance with urban transformation observed in Jammu city in the last decade.
He asked for evaluation of the existing routes to accommodate the increasing demands of the city commuters. “There is a need to implement necessary updates including changes, modification in the existing routes besides identification of new routes for uncovered areas. In this whole exercise the future projections for intra-city shifting should be taken care of,” he asserted.
Directions were also passed to assess the road and vehicle compatibility for public transport plying on different routes.
The Speaker asked for development of regular connectivity between the urban and rural areas in and around the city. He further asked the department to make immediate provision for public transport service for Nanak Nagar – Gangyal Chowk via Preet Nagar, Railway Station – Channi Himmat and Jeevan Nagar – Maralian routes.
The Commissioner Secretary directed the RTO Jammu to engage urban transport professionals, experts and conduct extended survey of the public transport infrastructure in the city. He asked him to submit a detailed report to the department with exhaustive observations and suggestions so that necessary changes can be implemented at the earliest.
