Kavinder, Sham dedicate tube well to public

JAMMU, Mar 4: Taking a major leap towards augmenting water supply, Speaker Legislative Assembly Kavinder Gupta and Minister for PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control Sham Lal Choudhary today inaugurated tube well in Nai Basti constructed at a cost of Rs 1.5 crore by Economic Reconstruction Agency (ERA).
The tube well having a discharge capacity of 22,500 gallons per hour will supply clean drinking water to more than 15000 residents of Nai Basti, Gandhi Nagar, Shastri Nagar and adjoining areas.
On the occasion, the Speaker said that a comprehensive development plan is underway to improve basic facilities for the people including power supply, water supply, road connectivity, healthcare and sanitation facilities.
The Speaker appealed the people to take proper care of public property and not convert parks into parking lots. Referring to Vijay Park in the area, he said concerned departments have been directed to install new gate in the park, besides making arrangements for installing playing structures for children.
On the occasion, the Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control informed that the department is formulating 19 new Water Supply Schemes to augment water supply in Jammu city.
He further said that public participation is necessary for the successful implementation of any programme and appealed them to fully participate in Swachh Bharat Mission for ensuring sustainable development.
Chief Engineer PHE Sushil Aima, Joint Commissioner, Jammu Municipal Corporation R.S Jamwal and senior officers of the concerned department and ERA were present on the occasion.
Earlier, the Minister kick started de-silting and upgradation work on distributary D-9 to be executed at the cost of Rs. 10 lakh.
