JAMMU, Dec 12: A 2-day All India Punjabi Writers’ Conference, being organised by Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, was inaugurated here today by Kavinder Gupta, Speaker State Legislative Assembly.
Prof  Surjit Singh Lee, former Pro  and Head,   Department of Anthropological Linguistics and Punjabi Language Punjabi University, Patiala presided over the event while Prof  Rawail Singh, Head , PG Department of Punjabi, University of Delhi, Convenor Punjabi Advisory Board, Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi and former Secretary, Punjabi Akademi presented Key-note address. Dr Aziz Hajini, Secretary and Dr Arvinder Singh Amn, Additional Secretary, JKAACL were also present in the presidium.
While addressing the gathering, Kavinder Gupta stressed upon the need to create an environment through which the youth can be attached and associated with the writing of creative literature in the form of poetry, short-story writing and play script writing also. He also said that such national level literary events will be fruitful and number of new budding writers can get an opportunity to interact with the established and senior writers of Punjabi literature. He also recited one of his selective piece of poetry in his address.
In his presidential address, Dr. Surjit Lee said it is the prime duty of intellectuals, academicians, writers and thinkers to design a policy for preservation, development and documentation of tradition, heritage, languages and folklore of the respective areas.
Prof Rawail Singh    said that the Punjabi literature of Jammu and Kashmir is typical and identical in form and content as compared to the Punjabi literature being written in India and outside Punjab.
Earlier, Dr Aziz Hajini informed that a series of literature conferences in recognised languages of the State are scheduled in the current financial year.
Some academy publications were also released in the inaugural session. The proceedings were conducted by S Popinder Singh, Editor Punjabi, JKAACL while Dr Arvinder Singh Amn presented vote of thanks.
In the panel discussion sessions, research papers were presented by Dr Baljeet Raina and   Dr Harbans Singh while short stories were presented by Khalid Hussain, Rattan Singh Kanwal, Gurpreet Kaur, Bhagwant Rasoolpuri and Amanpreet Kaur
A Punjabi play- ‘Abhisarika’ written by Balwant Gargi and directed by Mushtaq Kak was presented by Amateur Theatre Group.
