Kathua Kandi belt lacks basic facilities: Balbir

KATHUA, Aug 19: Expressing his grave concern over scarcity of drinking water in the Kandi belt of Kathua district, Member Legislative Council (MLC) and senior Congress leader Thakur Balbir Singh today regretted that even in the monsoon season people from Kathua area are confronting with the problem of non- availability of drinking water.
In a statement issued here today after conducting extensive tour of the Kandi belt of Kathua district, Balbir Singh said that, people who interacted with him, complained about non- availability of drinking water. He said various water supplies schemes launched by the successive State Governments appear only on papers but on the ground such schemes are not available.
He added that people have to cover distances of five to seven kilometers on foot to get few litres of drinking water for their families. “Instead of giving statements, authorities should awake from the deep slumber and should take some effective steps to ensure supply of drinking water”, he added.
Highlighting other problems of the masses, Singh regretted that the previous PDP-BJP regime has done nothing to solve day today problems of the common masses. “Non- availability of drinking water, power and scarcity of ration is an indication of the casual approach adopted by the previous regime to solve basic problems of the common masses”, Singh said and warned that Congress will not remain a mute spectator to the unending woes of the masses.
Responding to the problems listed by the people, Congress MLC said that he would take up these issues with the higher authorities for solution.
