Kashmiri ultra nabbed in Jammu with 8 grenades

JAMMU, Aug 5: Police tonight thwarted major plot by the militants to carry out serial blasts on the occasion of Independence Day by apprehending a Kashmiri militant along with eight hand grenades near Convent Crossing in Gandhi Nagar area.
Confirming arrest of the militant, reliable sources disclosed his identity as Arfan Hassan Wani son of Ghulam Hassan Wani R/o Danger, Awantipora. He was carrying eight powerful live hand grenades and Rs 60,000 cash with him, which were recovered from his possession at the time of arrest.
There had been specific Intelligence inputs that the Kashmiri militants of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT), Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and Hizbul Mujahideen were planning to carry out terror strikes in Jammu and New Delhi on the occasion of Independence Day on August 15 and, in view of the alert, police had strengthened all nakas.
The militant was nabbed near Convent Crossing when he was reportedly heading towards a hideout to take shelter and dump the grenades before carrying out the strikes. Eight live grenades have so far been recovered from the possession of arrested militant but sources didn’t rule out more recoveries.
Immediately after the arrest, the militant was whisked away to an unidentified location for sustained interrogation to ascertain whether he had more contacts in the City and outskirts.
Sources said the militant has confessed that he was part of the module, which had been tasked to carry out terror strikes in Jammu City and New Delhi on the occasion of Independence Day.
They added that the terror plot has been foiled with the arrest of Arfan but police remained on high alert to ensure that more militants didn’t manage to sneak in.
It may be mentioned here that before start of annual pilgrimage of Shri Amarnath Ji, the militant(s) had struck near General Bus Stand, Jammu injuring four persons including three police personnel.
