Kashmiri driver found murdered in Nowshera

RAJOURI, July 30: A young driver hailing from Kangan area of Ganderbal in Kashmir, was found murdered in Nowshera area of district Rajouri.
Identified as 23-year-old Tariq Tantray, son of Mohd Afzal Tantray, resident of Gund village near Kangan in Ganderbal district, he was missing for the last 19 days.  His family members had lodged missing report with Ganderbal police stating that Tariq had gone to Jammu via Mughal Road to drop Shri Amarnath Yatris but he went missing along with his Mahindra Scorpio vehicle while returning from Jammu to Ganderbal and his phone was also switched-off.
Ganderbal police could not get any clue for more than two weeks. Three days back, they could trace the location of the mobile phone of the missing driver Tantray near Bus Stand Rajouri. On the basis of this clue they with the help of Rajouri police rounded up a mobile shop owner, who disclosed that  one Aftab Ahmed alias Taba, son of Javed  Ahmed, resident of Badoon in Rajouri had sold this phone to him. When police raided the house of  Aftab, the family told that he was in Delhi.
The police did not tell them anything and sought the whereabouts of  Aftab. On Friday afternoon, when he reached Rajouri, the police lifted him and placed under sustained interrogation. Aftab confessed his crime and told that he along with three others murdered Tariq Tantray and snatched his vehicle and cash. His body was thrown under a Puli near Rajal in Nowshera near highway. They  were travelling in his vehicle from Jammu and had some altercation. Then, they murdered him and threw the body. After this they moved to Delhi but the fuel tank went empty and they abandoned the vehicle and went to Delhi. He told that abandoned vehicle has been seized by Delhi police.  He also disclosed the names of the three other associates and police was expecting their arrest shortly. It refused to disclose their names at this stage.
At the instance of accused Aftab, the joint team of Rajouri and Ganderbal police recovered dead body of the missing Kashmiri driver, which had decomposed.  It was shifted to the mortuary of Rajouri hospital last night. Today after postmortem, the body was sent to the home village Gund of the deceased.  The weapon of offence, a sharp edged weapon was also seized.
