Kashmir not a political issue: Prof Gupta

Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, Mar 13: Questioning the sincerity of those who are holding that Kashmir is a “dispute and political issue” the former Union Minister, Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta said that as far as the legal position is concerned the entire State of J&K is an irrevocable part of India and the Constitution of India as also that of the State are very clear in this regard as no one has the authority to change this fact.
But it sounds strange that some of the politicians especially from the troubled Valley under various considerations change their stances like that of the weather, he observed and added that while making such controversial statements perhaps forget that they are under oath of the Constitution by virtue of which are holding various positions and enjoying virtues.
Prof. Gupta said that no one in Kashmir can be taller than Sheikh Mohd Abdullah and even he too, at the floor of the UN Assembly in early 1948, had made it clear that “Aggression by Pakistan is the issue, not the Accession.” But it is ridiculous that even after this very clear assertion, some elements challenge the validity of the unchangeable position.
As far as Pakistan is concerned, its position is not more than of an aggressor and usurper, he maintained and asked the protagonists to explain that how it was a political issue even after the unchangeable constitutional position.
