Kashmir gets relief from intense cold, rains in parts of State

Srinagar, Dec 25: There was some relief from intense dry spell due to rains that lashed parts of Jammu and Kashmir today as the weather office forecasts light rain and snowfall at isolated places across the State.
A Meteorological Department official said that there was light rain during the night in Katra, Bhaderwah and Banihal areas of the Jammu region and in Qazigund town of Kashmir division.
The official said that during the next 24 hours light rain is likely in the plains and snowfall in the higher reaches of the State.
Due to a cloud cover and rains in parts of the State, the night temperatures improved throughout the State today bringing respite to the people especially in Kashmir valley where night temperatures broke the 6 year old record last week.
The lowest recorded night temperature was minus 2.2 degree Celsius in Srinagar against yesterday’s minus 4.4.
The night’s lowest temperature was minus 2.9 degree Celsius in Pahalgam and minus 4.6 degree Celsius in Gulmarg today.
Qazigund, Kokernag in South Kashmir and Kupwara in North Kashmir recorded a minimum of minus 2 degree Celsius.
Kargil town was the coldest town in the State where the night temperature dropped to minus 9.9 degree Celsius. Leh town recorded minus 9.4 degree Celsius as the night’s lowest temperature.
The night temperature improved to 11.9 degree Celsius in Jammu city today against last night’s 8.1 degree Celsius. Katra town recorded 9.1 degree Celsius, Batote 3.8 degree Celsius, Banihal 2.9 degree Celsius and Bhaderwah 0.1 degree Celsius as the minimum temperatures today.
The day temperatures across Kashmir improved today after dipping to season’s lowest so far yesterday at 8 degree Celsius. Srinagar recorded a maximum day temperature of 11.9 degree Celsius.
Qazigund recorded 12.4 degree Celsius, Pahalgam 8.7 degree Celsius, Kokernag 10.7 degree Celsius, Kupwara 12.5 degree Celsius, Gulmarg 5.6 degree Celsius, Leh 3.5 degree Celsius and Kargil 3.7 degree Celsius.
Jammu recorded a maximum of 22.6 degree Celsius, Katra 18.4 degree Celsius, Banihal 13.8 degree Celsius, Batote 12 degree Celsius and Bhaderwah 10.5 degree Celsius.
