Kashmir generates 1/3rd of tax collected in Jammu: Govt

JAMMU, Jan 19: The Kashmir generated about one third of the Excise and Sales Tax collected in Jammu region while Toll Tax collection in Jammu region was to  the tune of Rs 627 crore during last year as compared to Rs 22.53 crore in Kashmir region.
In the written reply to the question of BJP member, Ashok Khajuria in the Legislative Council today, Minister incharge Finance disclosed that State generated a  total tax revenue of  Rs 5515.96 crore during 2015-16. Out of the total,  from Jammu region  tax to the tune of Rs 4127 crore was collected while from Kashmir tax revenue of Rs 1398 crore was generated.
The Minister further disclosed that during the year 2014-15 the State generated a total tax revenue (ST/Excise/ Entry Tax) of Rs 4760.77 crore while Jammu region’s share of tax remained Rs 3592.15 crore while Kashmir region generated a revenue of 1168.62 crore. He disclosed that during the current year 2016-17, an estimated revenue of Rs 7292 crore is expected.  From Jammu region,  Govt is expecting to collect tax worth Rs 5399 crore while from Kashmir region  1892 crores.
Giving more details, the Minister disclosed that Govt generated Toll Tax worth Rs 627 core during 2015-16 while Rs 517.43 crore during 2014-15. From Kashmir,  the Govt recovered Toll Tax worth Rs  22.53 crore  during 2015-16 while Toll worth Rs 19.78 crore during 2014-15.
Entertainment tax recovery remained zero during last two years in Kashmir while in Jammu,  this tax to the tune of Rs 42 lakh was generated during the period. He said estimated Toll Tax generation during the current financial year is to the tune of Rs 800 crore in the State.
