SRINAGAR: The weekly Karvan-e-Aman bus, operating between Srinagar and Muzaffarabad, capital of Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir (PoK), was suspended on Monday as a precautionary measure, official sources said.
”We have got a message from POK that there will be no bus service today (Monday),” official sources said.
The message said that on Monday was a national holiday in Pakistan, where people are observing February 5 every year as “solidarity with Kashmir day”, they said.
All the passengers, who were scheduled to travel in the bus have already been informed, they said adding the passengers will be accommodated in next bus.
The number of guests from PoK witness a drop during winter due to sub zero temperature while it goes up in the summer when weather is pleasant. Only one PoK resident arrived here in the last bus.
Similarly, the number of Kashmiris visiting their relatives in PoK, separated due to partition in 1947, also drops during summer and goes up in winter. However, in the last bus only four Kashmiris crossed over to other side.
The weekly bus, introduced in 2005, has helped thousands of families divided in 1947 to meet each other.
However, only state subjects from both sides are eligible to travel in the bus on ” travel permits” instead of Passports, provided their names are cleared from the intelligence agencies from both the countries.
