Kargil International Marathon concludes

KARGIL, July 16: The first ever Kargil International Marathon ‘Run for Sarhad’ concluded with more than 800 runners from all over the world participating in the event.
People of all ages participated in the 160, 120, 60, 40, 20 and 10 kilometers races.
The marathon started from Tourist Facilitation Centre (TFC) Kargil and concluded at the same venue covering Drass War Memorial, Kaksar Harka Bahadur and much more.
‘Divyang’ students of Munshi Habibullah School also participated in the marathon. Major DP Singh, the first blade runner of India, also participated in the marathon.
J&K Legislative Council chairman Haji Anayat Ali, Dr Subash Ram Rao, J&K Minister for Public Works, Nayeem Akhtar, LAHDC CEC Kargil Kacho Ahmad Ali Khan, Director Tourism and Army and Civil officials were present to flag off the marathon under different categories.
The marathon was organised by Sarhad Pune, Run Buddies, SEWAK, All Kargil Tour and Travel Association, SEMOK etc, with support from LAHDC Kargil and Indian Army.
Talking to media, Major D.P. Singh expressed his happiness for getting chance to run in Kargil.
Sarfaraz Rahman, a young international runner from Meerut, expressed happiness after winning 120 km marathon and said, “I would never forget the hospitality of the people of Kargil and I am feeling at home with the support of the volunteers”.
The winner of 60 km run Zaheer Abass, a local lad who ran and won 60 km in less than 6 hours said it was his first chance to participate in such an event and he will try to bring Kargil on international map if supported.
