Karan supports division status for Ladakh

JAMMU, Dec 11: Former Union Minister Dr Karan Singh today strongly supported the demand for grant of separate division to Ladakh region and described as “unfortunate” PDP president and former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti’s statement to link the matter with some Pahari areas in Jammu.
In a statement issued here, Dr Karan Singh said, “historically, geographically, culturally and administratively, Ladakh has always been a special area, which needed full attention and I fully support the demand of the Autonomous Hill Development Councils, both in Leh and Kargil, which have demanded separate division for Ladakh region”.
He described Mehbooba’s attempt to link the issue with some Pahari areas in Jammu “an unfortunate effort” to divide Jammu on communal lines, which, he said, is not only wrong in itself but has no connection with the Ladakh demand.
“I hope the Governor will take cognizance of this,” Dr Karan Singh said.
