JAMMU, Mar 15: Though work started over eight years back, 13 km long Kandni to Ohli road in Inderwal tehsil of Kishtwar district is yet to be constructed.
The delay in the construction of the road which could have brought cheers on the faces of the people in surrounding villages of this hilly belt has led to their many problems, said Tara Chand Parihar Chairman Panchayat Kandni.
Expressing his dismay over the delaying tactics of the authorities at the helm of affairs in constructing the road Parihar said much to the discomfiture of the hapless people in this remote area the concerned authorities never showed any interest in constructing the road and delayed the work on one pretext or the other due to which the people of various villages are put to many problems.
The Government is making tall claims about the road connectivity in the State under PMGSY and other schemes but this road has never been a priority for it. Neither the previous Governments paid attention in completing this road nor the present dispensation is interested in constructing the same, said Parihar.
Sanjay Kumar a social activist of the area said earlier there was a proposal for construction of bridge at Kandni but due to the construction of power project the site of the bridge was shifted to Chatar.
He said even authorities had sanctioned another bridge at Drabshalla to give connectivity to area after the construction of power project and construction of road was sanctioned from Drabshalla to Ohli also but only the portion from Seeghat to Churyana was constructed while the other portion especially the base point was not touched. There was no fun of constructing middle portion of the road while abandoning the work on base point.
He said even some influential people and some local politicians are creating problems in the construction of the road and the contractors have abandoned the work as the authorities too lack interest in taking on them to ensure the speedy construction of road.
