Kalandari’s poetry showcased by Dogri Sanstha

JAMMU, Sept 16: A musical programme, based on the Dogri poetry of Tara Chand Kalandari was held today at K L Sehgal Hall.
The programme was a part of the series of such programmes organized by Dogri Sanstha, Jammu to highlight and showcase the poetry of a particular poet in each such programme.  This was the 11th such programme in the series.
The lyrics of Kalandari were set to music by the renowned music composer Sham Sajan. Those who lent their voices include Apoorva Jamwal, Gursharan Kour, Shyam Manyal, Virender Kapadia, Dr Samnotra and Shyam Sajan himself. The accompaniment on Tabla and Guitar was provided by Karan Malhotra and Sanjay Paashi, respectively.
Kalandari’s poetry having strong roots in Dogra culture, had direct appeal for the audience who enjoyed his five songs and one Gazal immensely.
Anjali Sharma, Incharge  Director, Doordarshan, Jammu, who was chief  guest on the occasion,  was all praise for the poetry of  Kalandari as well as the flawless manner in which the singers rendered the lyrics composed to the beautiful tunes. She also complimented Dogri Sanstha for organizing programmes of such aesthetic level , which serve  dual purpose of popularizing Dogri poetry as well as Indian music.
Prof Lalit Magotra, president Dogri Sanstha,  informed that looking at the popularity of these programmes, Sanstha was  planning to take these programmes outside Jammu city to other towns as well. He said, in addition to other merits of these programmes, one highlight is  the manner in which the master composer Sham Sajan introduces the Ragas on which the tunes are based. This inculcates love and pride among the audience for Indian music.
Prominent writers and music lovers were among the audience, who witnessed the programme.
Surjit Hosh, a young and talented Dogri poet, conducted the proceeding of the program and added colour to it by his wit and poetic style of presentation. Prof  Veena Gupta presented vote of thanks.
