JAMMU, Jan 15: Jammu West Assembly Movement (JWAM) today held a protest here at Janipur-High Court road demanding roll back of increased rates of ration.
The activists of JWAM and local people mostly belonging to BPL families led by JWAM president, Sunil Dimple, today assembled at Janipur-High Court road and raised the slogans against the CAPD minister for increasing the rates of the atta, rice, sugar besides their non-availability of these articles in ratio depots. The protesting people criticized the BJP-PDP Government, sitting BJP ministers, MLAs and MPs for remaining mum during the cabinet approval to decrease of kerosene quota to poor families.
Addressing the protesters, Sunil Dimple said that Mufti Mohd Sayeed Food Security Act has totally failed and the people of the Jammu region are without ration for the last five months even after increasing the rates of the Atta from Rs 8 to Rs 13 and Rice from Rs 10 to Rs 15.
Dimple demanded that during the grants of the CAPD Minister on January 17, their demand to roll back the increased rates of ration should be included in the budget grants.
He urged the Chief Minister and the CAPD Minister to provide 10 kg per member atta and rice to the people. Besides this, he also stressed for increasing the kerosene oil quota on per ration card to 30 litres per month and providing 20 kg sugar per month per family. He also demanded to exempt sale tax and VAT on the sale of petrol, diesel, kerosene oil and LPG in the State.
Alleging that the CAPD ration is openly being black marketed on the open shops of the Jammu city and in far flung areas, he demanded to arrest the black marketers of the ration, kerosene oil, LPG and sugar.
