JAMMU, July 10: Activists of Jammu West Assembly Movement (JWAM) here today staged protest demonstrations against Power Development Department (PDD).
Led by JWAM President, Sunil Dimple the protesters raised slogans against PDD and said that there are prolonged power cuts of 18 to 24 hours badly disturbing the normal lives of Jammu people.
Talking to Reporters Dimple demanded regular power supply to beat the scorching heat.
“Power portfolio was with BJP but they did nothing in three years of their governance for the improvement of power scenario in Jammu city,” JWAM President said.
The protesters also took out a rally against the PDD and Public Health Engineering (PHE) miniseries of former BJP-PDP coalition government.
The protestors further said that there is no water supply in many areas of Jammu city particularly in Jammu West Assembly Constituency areas for the last many days.
Dimple demanded installation of new receiving station of 50 MVA at Janipur to overcome the load problem and curtailment of power cuts.
He said that Janipur Power Station is 40 years old and has become defunct with its outdated transformers and other old machinery.
The JWAM leader further said that children, patients, women and others are spending sleepless nights due to long power cuts at night.
He demanded that Slal, Uri and Dul Hasti Hydel Power Projects should be returned back to the State and Indus Water Treaty with Pakistan should be scraped immediately to meet the electricity and water requirements of the State.
Dimple appealed to the Governor to immediately start the work on Chenab Water Supply Project as Jammu people are facing acute shortage of drinking water.
Prominent among those present in the protest were Ram Kapoor, Ashok Khanna, Kala Kumhart, Dev Raj, Kulwant Sharma, Vipan, Mukesh, Rakesh, Sanjay Seti, Joginder Kumar, Brahma Datt Sharma Raj Kumar, Ravinder Mishra and others.
