JAMMU, Jan 3: On 3rd day of Induction Training Programme, Justice Mohammad Yaqoob Mir addressed the newly appointed Munsiffs (Civil Judges Junior Division) in the J&K State Judicial Academy on Importance of judicial ethics, integrity and discipline, quality of a judge for effective decision making, humanity, sobriety and courtesy, integrity, tolerance, punctuality, standards for ethical conduct of judges, and role of a judge as a pivot of the court system.
The proceedings were conducted by Abdul Rashid Malik, Director Judicial Academy. The two working sessions of the Induction Training Programme were chaired by Justice Mohammad Yaqoob Mir, who said that concept of rule of law is dependent on an independent, fair and competent judiciary.
“A judge is expected to be fair and impartial in his judgment. It is an age-old adage, oft-quoted in legal circles that justice is not only to be done but must be seen to have been done”, Justice Mir said, adding “the judge must be even-handed and his approach must be consistent, irrespective of the fact as to who is before him in the dock”.
“Judges cannot ignore ethics and ethos while discharging their duties because the trust and confidence of the people reposed in the judiciary is our undaunted strength”, Justice Mir further said.
The judicial officers interacted with Justice Mir and sought many clarifications on judicial ethics which were responded by Justice Mir, by giving practical examples as to how the judicial officer will observe the canons of judicial ethics in and outside the court.
