JU teachers observe token strike

JAMMU, Apr 17: On the call given by Jammu University Teachers Association (JUTA), class work in the university remained completely suspended in protest against April 12 incident when some senior faculty members were  gheraoed and virtually locked by the agitating students.
Suspending their class work, the protesting JUTA members assembled near the Vice-Chancellor’s Secretariat and raised slogans for the protection of honour and dignity of the teachers.

Today’s token protest by JUTA was later extended and hence there will be no class work on Thursday also.
While addressing the gathering of teachers, JUTA president Prof K S Charak said that the teaching community was observing token strike to lodge protest against JU failure in protecting their honour and dignity.
“We are observing token strike to protest against illegal confinement of our colleagues on April 14 and the complete failure of the administration in protecting the honour and dignity of teachers,” he said.
Later, in the evening of JUTA, a decision to taken to extend the token protest till April 19 and hence there shall be no class work on Thursday while Wednesday is a holiday.
It may be recalled that members of the JU Negotiation Committee, some senior faculty members, were gheraoed and virtually locked on April 12 by the protesting students, who were observing fast unto death for removal of Prof Satnam Kour as Dean Students Welfare.
