Jammu, Jan 27: Jammu University men beat Lucknow University by 53-27 in their opening match of the North Zone Inter University Basketball Championship that got under way at Punjabi University Patiala today.
JU cagers made mincemeat of opponents’ defence as they struck at will. The difference between the two teams was obvious in the first quarter itself, with winners speeding to a 15-04 lead in the first quarter itself. Jaskirat Singh opened the account for the winners with a clean 3-pointer and Gurvinder chipped in with two fast breaks setting the tone for a well- coordinated offence for the winners from the very beginning.
JU dominated the proceedings in second quarter as well, going into the breather at 31-07. Shubham Sharma struck from under the basket and from outside the 3-point circle, while Amanjot chipping in with three baskets in the second quarter.
Lucknow men rallied in the third and fourth quarter, but they had no answer to pressure defence of the JU cagers. The winners led 53-27 at the final hooter.
