JU organizes seminar on ‘Relevance of Mahatma Gandhi in Contemporary Era’

JAMMU, Oct 9: To commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi, the Department of Students Welfare, University of Jammu organized a seminar on the topic ‘Relevance of Mahatma Gandhi in Contemporary Era’.
Prof. Anurag Gangal, Director Gandhian Centre, University of Jammu was the keynote speaker and the event was coordinated by Dr Seema Rohmetra, Coordinator Gandhi Peace Foundation, Jammu Chapter. Dean Students Welfare, Prof Shailender Singh Jamwal and Assistant Dean SW, Dr Garima Gupta were also present on the occasion.
Prof Anurag Gangal discussed in detail about different aspects of Gandhian Philosophy. In a comprehensive manner, he presented the idea of non-violence, global-brotherhood and swachta.
Dr Seema Rohmetra in her presentation highlighted Mahatma Gandhi’s ideas in the context of contemporary economics, politics, education and society.
In his welcome address, Prof Shailender Singh explained in detail about the goal of organizing such an event of high importance for University Students which helps them in imbibing the positive traits.
Earlier, Shumalini and Amogh, students of the University of Jammu presented a Bhajan which was attributed to Mahatma Gandhi.
A short documentary on Swachta prepared by VOICE was also screened at the occasion.
In the end, Dr Garima Gupta presented the vote of thanks.
Prominent amongst those who were present at the occasion included Dr Savita Nayyar, Dr Vinay Thusoo, members of Campus Cultural Committee and Students Cultural Council and Dr Sapna Sangra, Co-ordinator, Gandhi Peace Foundation Jammu Chapter.
The programme was attended by the students and scholars of the University and was conducted by Sumeet Sharma and Ifra Kak. The sound was operated by Kulbhushan Thakur and Arif Paul.
