JU, MIET, IIT Kharagpur organize Workshop on Institutional Digital Repository

JAMMU, Apr 7: The University of Jammu (JU), Model Institute of Engineering and Technology (MIET) and the National Digital Library of India (NDLI), IIT Kharagpur jointly organized the first 2-day Regional Workshop on Institutional Digital Repository, which concluded here today.
The workshop was inaugurated yesterday at the Department of Statistics, University of Jammu and the valedictory function was held at the Model Institute of Engineering and Technology today.
Prof RD Sharma, Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu was the chief guest during the valedictory function while Prof JPS Joorel, Deptt. of Statistics, University of Jammu was the guest of honour.
Fifty two Library and IT professionals from over twenty different Universities and Institutions including University of Jammu, University of Kashmir, SMVDU, Katra, BGBSU, Rajouri, MIET, Jammu, CSIR-IIIM, Jammu, Panjab University, IIM, Jammu, IUST, Kashmir, MAM College, Jammu, Dr. Y.S Parmar University, Solan, GDC, Udhampur, GDC, Anantnag, Eternal University, HP, SKUAST, Jammu, Krishi Vishwavidyala, HP, Khalsa College for Women, Jalandhar, GCW Nawakadal, Srinagar, Shoolini University, Solan and GDC Kargil participated in the two-day workshop which included detailed hands-on training to facilitate creation of institute-level digital repositories and democratizing access to digital resources.
The workshop was organized under the auspices of the National Digital Library of India (NDLI) which is a pan-India project under the NME-ICT program of the MHRD, Govt. of India.
A high-level team from IIT-Kharagpur including Prof. P.P Das, Department of Computer Science, Joint Principal Investigator, NDLI Project, Dr. B. Sutradhar, Co-Principal Investigator, NDLI Project and Librarian, IIT Kharagpur, Shibabroto Banerjett, Principal Project Officer-System, NDLI Project and Mr. Samrat Guha Roy, Assistant Librarian, IIT-Kharagpur were the resource persons for the workshop. Prof. Rahul Gupta, Dean Mathematical Sciences, University of Jammu was the convener while Prof. Ankur Gupta, Director MIET was the co-convener for the workshop.
In his address during the valedictory function, Prof. R.D Sharma, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu thanked the team from NDLI IIT Kharagpur for organizing the workshop in the region and equipping the Library professionals with the skills to facilitate large-scale digitization and distribution of content.
