JU imposes penalties on sexual harassment accused

JAMMU, Sept 21: On the recommendation by the Committee Against Sexual Harassment (CASH), Jammu University today ordered disbarment of Dr Shubhnandan Singh Jamwal, Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science & IT, JU, from holding an administrative position in the University.
As per the order, the accused faculty member has also been attached for one year away from the Department of Computer Science and IT, JU, to the Centre for IT Enabled Services and Management, JU till the complainant passes out.
Besides, the accused has also been debarred from all academic and evaluation assignments of the complainant’s batch. He will also not participate in any committee of the department where the interests of the complainant’s batch needs addressing.
The University has withheld one annual increment of the Dr Shubhnandan Jamwal with cumulative effective and also warned him not to indulge in such activities in future to avoid stringent action.
The penalties have been imposed as defined at Section IX (1) a, b & d of rules and procedure of the CASH of JU.
It may be recalled that a complaint of sexual harassment was lodged by a female student of the Department of Computer Science and IT, JU, on 17-05-2017 after which an enquiry committee was constituted to look into the matter.
