JAMMU, June 2: In a major development, Jammu University has conceded most of the demands of Class-IV employees who are observing token strike for the last three weeks.
According to a JU spokesperson, the Class IV employees will get pre-revised scale of 4000-6000 for category-I and of 5000-8000 for category-II after getting the third step in career advancement scheme which has been recently approved by the Competent Authority. By doing so the major demand of the striking employees has been accepted.
In another order, the University has re-designated the Class-IV employees who have completed 20 years of service, as Daftri while another demand of the employees for payment of 3rd installment of arrears as per 1st and 2nd installments (already paid), has also been accepted.
Regarding the demand for regularization of the daily wage workers, the JU clarified that the matter was under active consideration of the State Government. The Vice-Chancellor, Prof Mohan Paul Singh Ishar has taken personal interest and discussed the issue with the competent authority and a positive outcome in this regard is expected shortly, the spokesperson added.
Pertinent to mention that several rounds of negotiations had taken place between the committee constituted by the university and the office bearers of the NGEU. The committee has assured the office bearers of the NGEU that all their pending issues were under active consideration of the university authority and the State Government. The university authorities have also appealed to the striking employees to call off their strike since most of their demands have either been accepted or are under active consideration of the competent bodies.
However, on the other hand, president of NGEU Krishan Chand told Excelsior that they had not received any communication regarding positive response of the university over their demands and hence the ongoing token strike would continue.
