JU Academic Council approves agenda items

JAMMU, Nov 23:   The Academic Council of University of Jammu, which met today under the chairmanship of JU Vice-Chancellor Prof R D Sharma, took various important academic decisions.
Around 42 agenda items were presented by Dr Meenakshi Kilam, JU Registrar. All the items were discussed along with the action taken report on the resolutions of the last Academic Council.
The item with regard to acceptance and approval of the NWAC American High School Diploma as an eligible qualification for admission to the Undergraduate programme was approved as the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) has accorded equivalence to the American High School Diploma Programe qualification from schools authorized by Northwest Accreditation Commission, USA and considered its equivalence to the 12th Senior Secondary School qualification of Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and other boards.
The Academic Council endorsed adoption of the guidelines pertaining to the Jammu University Internal Complaints Committee Against Sexual Harassment (JUICCASH) as per the recent guidelines of the University Grants Commission (UGC) to deal with issues pertaining to prevention, prohibition and redressal of sexual harassment of women employees and students in the University in place of already notified CASH.
Decision with respect to providing answer scripts to the students of the Undergraduate Courses in case of their reservations and doubts with regard to their evaluation was also taken to incorporate an element of transparency in the process as a student friendly initiative.
The Academic Council also endorsed the introduction of M. Phil in Biochemistry and Microbiology within the existing resources. Introduction of 5- year Integrated BBA, LLB course in the Bhaderwah Campus, University of Jammu,  was also agreed in principle subject to the approval of the Bar Council of India (BCI).
Various other important academic issues of the University were also discussed in the Academic Council meeting, which was attended by Prof  Keshav Sharma, Dean Academic Affairs, Prof Jigar Mohd, Dean Research Studies, Deans of various Faculties, Rectors/Directors of the Offsite campuses, Heads of the Departments, Conveners of Boards of Studies, College Principals and other officials of the University.
