JTC’s concern over locking of migrant quarters

Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, Sept 24: A joint meeting of Jagti Tenement Committee (JTC) and Soan Kashmir Front (SKF) J&K was held here, today under the chairmanship of Shadi Lal Pandita, president JTC/ SKF.
Addressing the meeting Shadi Lal Pandita said that hundreds of residential quarters have remained locked since the date of their allotment to the migrants because such migrants whose allotted quarters are locked since allotment are residing in their own residential houses constructed at different places and now these allottees are selling the allotted quarters to the vested interests charging Rs. 2.00 lac to Rs. 2.50 lacs for each quarter.
He said some quarters allotted to the migrants have been rented out to vested interested and non migrants on monthly rent. This is grave injustice with the migrants putting up in hired accommodations and suffering from multiple ailments.
Pandita demanded that a thorough investigation be made as to how many quarters have either been sublet or given on rent.
He also demanded that quarters given on rent to vested interests need to be vacated and allotted to the deserving migrants.
Pandita said that during the visit of Secretary, Relief and Rehabilitation to Jagti township some demands were put forth by the resident of Jagti to him who among other things demanded providing of X-ray machine in 40 bedded hospital. A demand for repairs and renovation of the existing road from Kandoli to Jagti township was also made but till date nothing has been done despite assurances by the concerned authority.
