Journalists remember Ashok Sodhi on his 8th death anniversary

JAMMU, May 11: On 8th death anniversary of Ashok Sodhi-a photojournalist and then Chief Cameraman of the Daily Excelsior,  who sacrificed his life while performing  professional duties during an encounter at Samba in 2008, the journalist fraternity today remembered their colleague and paid rich tributes to the departed soul.
In this connection, the Press Club of Jammu organized a simple function this morning wherein media men from both electronic and print, paid their floral tributes to Ashok Sodhi.
Speaking on the occasion, president Press Club of Jammu, Ashwani Kumar remembered his days with late Sodhi and termed him as a professional man. He said that Sodhi was not only known for his professionalism but also for his participation in social activities besides getting always ready to help the needy.
Secretary general PCJ, Zorawar Singh Jamwal also spoke on the occasion and advised the working journalists to be careful and alert while performing their professional duties.
Former president PCJ and senior journalist, Manu Shrivatsa recalled his closeness with Sodhi and his contribution besides role in the development of the Press Club of Jammu.
A similar tribute paying function was organized by Jammu Working Journalists Association at K L Sehgal Hall, Jammu.
The programme was presided over by Speaker J&K Assembly, Kavinder Gupta and attended by MLA Jammu East, Rajesh Gupta, Director Doordarshan Anjali Sharma, senior journalist Sohail Qazmi and Cultural Academy Additional Secretary Dr Arvinder Singh Amn.
Kavinder Gupta said that Ashok Sodhi had laid down his life in the line of duty and has set up an example as well as standard of professional commitment.
Rajesh Gupta said that media has played a sterling role in highlighting the depredations and atrocities of militants and thereby ensured total and complete public support to the Government against the militants.
Sohail Qazmi recalled his close association with Ashok Sodhi and termed him as a man committed to his professional and its fearless practicing.
Dr. Arvinder Singh Amn described Ashok Sodhi as a dedicated media person, who always took lead in covering risky events.
Ina Sodhi, daughter of Ashok Sodhi, also paid emotional tribute and said that she is proud of her father and shall endeavor to follow his example in the life.
On the occasion, Roshni Kumari and Sunil Kumar presented songs as a tribute to late Ashok Sodhi.
The management and staff members of the Daily Excelsior also paid rich tributes to Ashok Sodhi on his 8th death anniversary and observed a two-minute silence for peace to the departed soul.
During a meeting in this connection at the Excelsior House, the entire team of Daily Excelsior, led by the Editor Kamal Rohmetra and Executive Editor, Neeraj Rohmetra, recalled the services of Ashok Sodhi and his commitment towards professional duty.
