Jora accuses Govt of being anti-Ladakh

JAMMU, Apr 27: Congress Legislature Party leader, Nawang Rigzin Jora today accused the Mufti Mohammad Sayeed Government of being anti-Ladakh.
In a statement, Mr Jora said, “Mufti Government’s promise of equitable development of all the three regions of the State has been exposed by its failure to recommend Leh to be taken up under the Smart City project”.
“Nobody can deny the fact that Leh is the third most important city of the State. Even Leh used to be the trade centre for the traders from the Central Asian cities of Kashgar and Khotan”, he said, adding “post independence Leh became one of the most important strategic towns with an airport and other important defence establishments. Since 1975 when the area was thrown open to foreign tourists, Leh has been attracting the largest number of foreign tourists”.
While welcoming inclusion of Anantnag and Katra in the Smart City project, the CLP leader said, “non-inclusion of Leh only exposes the Coalition Government’s double standard. The promise of equitable development and equitable share for all the three regions is a mere slogan and political rhetoric”.
“There is still time to redeem their pledge and promise. If this Coalition Government truly believes in giving all the three regions its due, they should recommend Leh to be included in the Smart City project by considering the same relaxations that they have done for Katra and Anantnag”, Mr Jora said.
