JMC launches drive to de-silt nallahs, deep drains

JAMMU, Mar 4: Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) today launched an extensive drive to de-silt various big nallahs and deep drains within its limit keeping in view the ensuing Summer season. The drive was started in Nanak Nagar Nallah in the presence of Kavinder Gupta, Speaker, State Legislative Assembly by deploying men and machinery for de-silting of the same.
The drive was launched on the directions of Dr. Manmohan Singh, Commissioner, JMC and under the supervision of R.S. Jamwal, Joint Commissioner (A).
This special drive will continue so that major and minor nallahs and deep drains could be de-silted well in time before the onset of Summer season to avoid health hazards and inconvenience to the general public. On the occasion Speaker appealed the general public to cooperate with the Jammu Municipal Corporation to keep the Jammu neat and clean.
During de-silting of Nanak Nagar, Speaker showed his satisfaction over the efforts taken by JMC for initiating the de-silting drive for cleaning various nallahs/deep drains.
R.S. Jamwal, Joint Commissioner (A), JMC  stated that JMC always takes initiative to clean the big nallahs/deep drains before the start of Summer/rainy season so that any loss to life and property be avoided and also appealed the general public that not to throw garbage, plastic goods and other household material in nallahs as it is a main cause of choking of nallahs. He assured the general public that JMC will put every possible efforts for mitigating the sufferings of residents of different areas falling within the limits of Jammu Municipal Corporation.
Among others Talat Mehmood Khan, Chief Transport Officer along with Transport officers and other field staff were accompanied during the de-silting drive.
