JMC checks licenses of street vendors

JAMMU, May 17:  Desi-gnated Officer, Jammu Municipal Corporation, Sanjeev Kumar Gupta along with Food Safety Officers Hans Raj, Jai Inder Singh, Daleep Singh and Ajay Khajuria carried out extensive inspections of street food vendors operating on BC Road and near Science College.
Closure Notices were issued to six vendors for operating without authorization from Jammu Municipality and also without obtaining any registration under FSS Act from the competent authority.
The team during the inspection at Jammu Fruit Mandi yard destroyed 30 quintals of Papaya found to have been ripened with the use of Calcium Carbide which is a banned item used for ripening of fruits.
All street food vendors operating without authorization have been asked to stop such operations, failing which the action warranted under law will be initiated against them. All the vendors dealing with fruits have also been impressed upon not to use Calcium Carbide (Carcinogenic in nature) as ripening agent.
