JAMMU, July 14: JKVM organized a seminar on “Genesis of continued Genocide on Kashmiri Pandits” at Rajendra Bhawan, New Delhi as a culmination of one month long campaign under “Exodustill When”.
The campaign was launched in commemoration of communal carnage of KPs in Kashmir in year 1931. The month-long activities included a letter writing campaign to PM, social media campaign, talks and seminars on the subject.
On July 13, 1931 Kashmiri Pandits were subjected to a communal carnage. Many Kashmiri Pandits were murdered and their properties looted and ransacked. The attack of 1931 was one among the many dark chapters in the history.
The incident of July 13, 1931, revolves around Abdul Qadeer, the cook with a British officer who delivered a fiery speech against Maharaja Hari Singh. Abdul Qadeer was arrested and put on trial for sedition, but his trial was shifted to the Srinagar Central Jail. The people tried to storm the jail, leading to death of protesters. This was followed by rioting in several areas and property belonging to minorities was burnt.
A seminar on Genocide of Kashmiri Pandits was organized today at Rajendra Bhawan, , New Delhi. Guest speakers at this occasion were Saurabh Shukla, Founder and Editor in Chief News Mobile and partner at Republic TV and Harvir Singh, Editor, Outlook Hindi. After the seminar a silent candle march was taken out up to ITO Chowk.
While speaking on the occasion Saurabh Shukla said that the nation cannot forget the remarkable contribution of KPs in social/economic/intellectual space of Kashmir. He said the community in spite of their struggle of past 29 years has continued that role of nation building even in exodus. He expressed his disappointment in Governments approach towards the community and particularly in rehabilitating them.
Harvir Singh while commenting on the previous alliance of BJP and PDP, said the alliance was so unnatural in even practical functioning that the lead partner was creating hurdles in what the junior partner used to propose for their constituency. He said that the Kashmiri Pandits have suffered in last 28 years just because the polity of nation. KPs don’t matter in Government formation and that is the reason they had to suffer, he added.
Community leaders including T N Razdan, national president, JKVM, Sanjay Ganjoo, State president JKVM, Col (retd) Dr Tej Ticku, president AIKS, Kamal Hak, Panun Kashmir and Manoj Bhan, general secretary JKVM also spoke at the occasion and highlighted the genocide & discrimination which the community has undergone over ages.
