JKSAC appeals DPs to observe Martyrs’ Day on Oct 22

JAMMU, Oct 20: The Jammu Kashmir Sharnarthi Action Com-mittee (JKSAC) has appealed the displaced persons (DPs) from Pak occupied Kashmir (PoK) to observe Martyrs’ Day on October 22.
In a meeting of the JKSAC members held here today, the participants from different regions unanimously appealed to Displaced Persons (DPs) of 1947 from PoK to observe October 22, 2016 as a Martyr Day when they were forced to leave their native places by Pakistani tribals.
Addressing the meeting Gurdev Singh- president, alongwith Netar Prakash general secretary Jagdish Raj Sharma from Rajouri, Rishipal Choudhary from Kathua, Om Prakash from Samba, Harjeet Singh from Poonch, said that DPs of 1947 from PoK are the first victims of Pakistani sponsored aggression of 1947 suffered immense loss of life and properties. More than 40,000 people were slaughtered. There was hardly any family who has not lost its member in this onslaught. The women were abducted and made slaves. Many of them jumped into the rivers and burnt alive themselves to save their dignity and honour.
He said that this was the worst kind of genocide of recent times committed by Pakistani Tribal in Indian sub-continent. Some may believe it or not but it is factual part of history that DP’s of Poonch, Muzaffarabad, Mirpur and Bhimbar fought Pakistani Tribal with empty hands and delayed their advance till the Indian Army landed in state on October 27, 1947 to protect people.
He regretted that it is a travesty of justice that despite the lapse of seven decades their sacrifices have not been taken in account by any of dispensation in State and Centre and are still awaiting their settlement.
Mr Singh under upon the Union Govt to get expedite the process for release of Rs 2000 crore package for the DPs.
Prominent among others present in the meeting included Kewal Krishan Rajouri, Harbans Singh, Master Yograj, Mukesh Raina, Gyani Jamir Singh, Rani Jasrotia, Santokh Singh, Jasbir Singh, Parvesh Kumar, Rakesh Kumar and Mohinder Singh Khalsa.
