J&K’s Sumitpal wins prestigious Tennis Tournament

JAMMU, May 12: Jammu and Kashmir’s ace Tennis Player, Sumitpal Singh today won Rs 50,000 Prize Money AITA Men’s Tennis Tournament at Pradhan Tennis Academy  Karala-Sultanpur road, New Delhi.
Earlier, Sumitpal had won all four qualifying rounds held on last saturday and sunday to enter main draw of this tournament.
In final qualifying rounds, Sumitpal defeated Amit Beniwal of Haryana by 9-4.
In the main draw of 32 players from all over India, Sumitpal in first round defeated Archit Jain of Delhi in three setter match in a tough contest.
In 2nd round, Sumitpal drubbed Vilaskher Khate of Haryana in straight sets by 6 -1, 6 -2.
In 3rd quarterfinal round, Sumitpal defeated Yugal Bansal of Delhi by 6 -1 1 -0. Bansal left the ground at the start of second set and conceded the match while losing one game in second set.
Today  sumipal singh played semifinal as well final rounds.
In the semifinal played today, Sumitpal defeated Rohan Mehra of Delhi by 6-7 6-4 6-3 in a three setter match, while in the final, Sumitpal lost the first set to Ankit Tomar of Delhi by 3-6 and won the next two sets by 7-6, 6-3 and claimed the title. He received prize money of Rs 7400 as cash prize for emerging winner.
