JAMMU, Nov 20: Jammu and Kashmir Private Schools Coordination Committee has expressed its strong resentment against hostile attitude of the School Education Department and questioning the character of owners of private institutions and challenging their dignity.
“JKPSCC strongly condemns such a discouraging system of governance, which instead of acknowledging the efforts of these self sustained institutions, always tries to cut them short by creating hurdles in their smooth functioning,” said JKPSCC president Rameshwar Singh Manhas and working president Dr Hari Dutt Shishu, while addressing press conference, here today.
Maintaining that JKPSCC had numerous meetings with officers like Commissioner Secretary Education, Advisor to Governor, and Director School Education seeking to resolve the issue regarding sale of uniform and books, Shishu said that the Committee had suggested to implement one common uniform for students of all the schools across the State so that the same is readily available at all the shops thus no profiteering. “School owners have nothing to do with pricing of uniform. Govt may check shop keepers to control pricing of uniform. Presently, schools have to recommend shops to parents because all shopkeepers do not and cannot keep uniform of all schools or fulfill their demands,” he explained.
With regard to the issue of books, he further explained that since all CBSE schools use books of private publications which are enriched with updated content, quality, digital content, teacher resource material and teacher training, the schools of State Board have no choice but to recommend such books in view of competition. However, he added, Government should form an expert panel to analyze the books of private publications and issue list of 5 to 7 good publishers so that all shopkeepers could maintain the stock of books and schools can recommend books from these publications only.
JKPSCC reiterated its demand to take into account all the stake holders like parents, schools and Government and set an upper limit for all the schools to charge fee (including monthly fee annual charges and all other type of charges under any head) for whole year. “Government can take action against any school if it charges beyond the upper limit. It seems Government itself does not want to resolve the issue and instead creates a sense of confusion among the society,” said Rameshwar Singh.
