JKP organizing Police Martyrs Memorial Football Tournament from tomorrow

SRINAGAR, Nov 8: Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) is organizing a “15th Police Martyrs Memorial Football Tournament-2017″at Synthetic Turf TRC Ground, here from November 10, 2017. The Tournament will conclude on November 19, 2017.
This was informed by Inspector General of Police (IGP), S. Ahfadul Mujtaba while sharing details of the tournament with the media persons today at a Press Conference held, here. He said that the tournament is being organized every year by J&K Police in the memory of brave Jawans and officers of the force, who laid down their lives for the security, sovereignty and integrity of the nation.
It is pertinent to mention here that the Tournament was initiated in the year 1998 in the memory of Inspector Mushtaq Ahmad Baba, the then SHO Kothibagh Srinagar, who made supreme sacrifice while protecting the civilians during terrorist attack at Regal Chowk Srinagar on October 31, 1997.
IGP said that It has been the endeavor of the Jammu and Kashmir Police to maintain and promote cordial and co-operative relations with the public and over the years it has been organizing various programmes under CAP to achieve this goal.
He further said that as part of such an initiative, the J&K Police is keen on organizing various sports activities for the youth in the Valley, adding that such events generate tremendous interest among the youth, which in turn help in channelizing the young minds in a positive direction.
The Tournament is being organized under the aegis of JKFA on knockout basis and 24 teams are participating in the tournament.
The winners of the tournament will be presented Rs one lakh, while the runners-up will team will get 75,000 and the third position winner will be given Rs 50,000.
