JAMMU, Jan 14: To remember martyr S Saroop Singh, who laid his life while fighting with Chinese forces in 1962, the J&K Freedom Fighters Association (JKFFA) today held a programme at Dogra Shaurya Sthal, Amphalla, here.
The programme was organized by the president of the Association, Ved Gandotra. Davinder Singh Vishavnagrik graced the occasion as chief guest.
A two minutes silence was observed in the honour of the martyr and candles were also lit besides paying floral tributes by showering flowers on the photograph of S Saroop Singh.
Speaking on the occasion, speakers said that seeing death in front of him, he asked his fellow Army-men to leave the-picket, he would alone face the Chinese Army and fought the enemy to the last bullet. They added that the spirit of nationalism and patriotism and saving the life of his colleagues was an example for the youth of modem India and specially the youth of Valley, who were playing in the hands of separatists, religious fundamentalists and anti-national forces.
They asked them to shun violence, go to schools and apply their minds in construction of the nation and welfare of the people of the State. The speakers also remembered all other martyrs and the freedom fighters, who sacrificed everything for the freedom of the nation.
Prominent who spoke on the occasion were State president, Shri Ram Sena, Rajiv Mahajan, Pradeep Kumar, Varun Kumar, Rajinder Singh, Parbhat Kapahi and Devinder Singh.
