JKEDI trains new entrepreneurs

Srinagar, Jan 30: Jammu and Kashmir Entrepreneurship Development Institute (JKEDI) Thursday trained a fresh batch of 111 aspiring businessmen, including 14 women.
A spokesperson of EDI said he candidates were given three-week entrepreneurship development training, exposing them to a comprehensive programme to equip them with tools they need to start profitable businesses.
The latest batch of aspiring entrepreneurs were from Srinagar, Budgam, Kulgam, Ganderbal, Anantnag, Shopian and Pulwama districts of the Valley with varied educational background, including qualified engineers and doctors, the spokesperson said.
“Most of the candidates have registered for the Seed Capital Fund Scheme (SCFS) – a key component of the State Government’s Sher-e-Kashmir Employment and Welfare Programme for Youth (SKEWPY) being implemented by JKEDI to help startup entrepreneurs,” the spokesperson said.
The spokesperson said financial assistance is provided to the trained candidates. Non-refundable seed money of up to 35 percent of their project cost is provided to them under SCFS and the rest is financed at concessional rates by J&K Bank – the debt syndicate of JKEDI.
The trained aspiring entrepreneurs are targeting business including manufacturing, services, food processing, and agri-allied sectors.
