JAMMU, July 9: Jammu and Kashmir Army Porters Union (J&KAPU) advocated for financial assistance and jobs for Army Civilian Porters who worked day-in and day-out along with Army Troops during Kargil war (Operation Vijay).
They batted for the welfare of the Porters during a protest and Press Conference which among others was attended by the permanent residents of Jammu, Samba, Kathua, Akhnoor, Poonch and Rajouri, who have served as Porters during Operation Vijay.
Blaming the Government for its indifferent treatment towards them, they said that 10 Porters had lost their lives while serving the Nation during Operation Vijay, adding that the State Govt has given financial assistance and job to just one person to martyred Porters families, adding that during Kargil War Army Authorities had assured us that Kargil War Porters will be given preference in Govt jobs and allied things, but so far they have been ignored everywhere.
They said, that Govt had framed Policy for rehabilitation and employment of surrendered militants, who were fully involved in anti-national activities, but the ill-fated Army Porters who served for Nation have been left in the lurch.
