JKAACL’s miniature painting workshop concludes

KATHUA, Mar 19: Four days miniature workshop organized by Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages (JKAACL) concluded today at Basohli.
Dharmindra Sharma, SDM Basohli was the chief guest, while Ved Mankotia, eminent social worker and prominent citizen presided over the function and Som Nath, Principal, Jawahar Navodya Vidialya, Basohli was the guest of honor. Dr Arvinder Singh Amn, Additional Secretary, JKAACL and Sukhbir Singh, SHO Basohli were also present on the occasion.
While speaking on the occasion, Dharindra Sharma said that the miniature painting is the internationally acclaimed art form of the area and the artists of modern times associated deserve all appreciation that they have preserved and due to this Basohli is globally renowned.
While delivering his presidential address, Ved Mankotia hoped that such more activities will also be arranged in this region in future.
Som Nath, Principal, Jawahar Navodya Vidialya, Basohli said that the Basohli region is a fertile land and the writer and artist community of the area established their names in the international scene in their respective fields. He also wished to work in collaboration for the promotion and development of literature and visual and performing arts in this region.
Earlier, while presenting the welcome address, Dr Arvinder Singh Amn, Additional Secretary, JKAACL said that this is the right time to work in collaboration with the departments like tourism and education to provide space to the youth to inculcate amongst them the importance of regional culture, language and both performing and visual arts. He further said that in future JKAACL will initiate the process of organizing folk dances and music programs, workshops and on the spot music and painting workshops for the students of various categories.
The artists from various districts of Jammu region who participated in this camp include Dharam Pal Verma, Kabir Maharana, Shakeel Ahmad Reza, Sohan Singh Billowria, Sona Padha, Dheeraj Kapoor, Sukhdeep Singh, Sushil Padha, Nitika Mehra (Basohli), Prikshit Sharma (Chamba), Arun Sharma (Udhampur) and Kanchan Billowria (Kathua).
The paintings prepared in the said camp were also exhibited and kept open for visitors.
Irshad Hussain, Assistant Exhibition Officer was the coordinator of the said camp.
The proceedings of the programme were conducted by Joginder Sharma of JKAACL and vote of thanks was presented by Shiv Doblia, an eminent writer and artist of the area.
