J&K ‘Sports Policy’ to be introduced in one month: Taj

JAMMU, Apr 25: With an initiative to develop sports culture and promote sports in nooks and corners of Jammu and Kashmir State, the Minister for Youth Services and Sports, Taj Mohi-ud-Din today said that J&K ‘Sports Policy’ will be introduced in one month’s time.
“We are keen to bring in the ‘Sports Policy’ for the betterment of the sports and the sportspersons, besides coaches and other officials”, Taj said while addressing media persons, here today.
He said that ‘Sports Policy’ in Jammu and Kashmir is need of the hour to streamline things, adding that many things have been charted out and the outline framed while the policy will come into force in a month.”
The Minister said that despite striving hard to craft space on the country’s Sports Map, Jammu and Kashmir is far behind in this field, but the efforts are on to raise the level of sports with additional facilities and infrastructure.
He further said that directions have also been issued to the schools to raise the infrastructure of sports especially the playing fields.
“Schools lacking playing fields have been advised to promote indoor games as per their availability,” he added.
The Minister further said that Panchayats will also be involved in the development of sports as they play a major role.
Meanwhile, Director General Youth Services and Sports, Naveen Aggarwal, who was also present on the occasion, said, “last year 849 school children participated in National level activities organised by the School Games Federation of India across the Country.”
In all 53 medals have been won by the State consisting of nine gold, 17 silver and 27 bronze, he said adding, “the Department is grooming hidden talent especially in the remote and hilly areas” and assured improvement in the standard of sports in Jammu and Kashmir in near future.
