JAMMU, Mar 30: J&K Police Wrestling team overall winners scoring 22 points in the 9th J&K State Indian Style Wrestling Championship for Men while District Reasi scoring 15 points remained runner-up, third place winner is District Jammu scoring 07 points and fourth place winner District Kathua also scoring 07 points which concluded at Dewan Mandir Akhara, here.
Championship was organized by J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association and duly sponsored by J&K State Sports Council.
84 Wrestlers from all over the J&K State took part in the championship and participating Districts and teams included Jammu, Udhampur, Reasi, Rajouri, Kathua, Samba, Doda, Anantang, Srinagar and J&K Police team.
MLA Jammu (East) Rajesh Gupta was the chief guest on the occasion who gave away Medals, Certificates, Mementoes and cash prizes to the medallists.
Joint Secretary J&K State Sports Council, Shiv Kumar Sharma who is also President J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association and Treasurer Indian Style Wrestling Association of India presided over the function.
Chief Sports Officer, Haji Abdul Qayoom, Sports Officer Jammu, Ravi Singh were the guests of honour. Prominent among others present on the occasion were Prem Choudhary (Chairman), P.R. Sharma (Treasurer), Bansi Lal Tidyal (General Secretary), Mulkh Raj Sharma (Chairman Technical Committee), Shartughan Jambal (Vice-President), Naresh Kumar (Pappu Lakri), Social Activist and wrestling promoter Ram Paul Sharma, Om Parkash Verma, Rehmat Ali (Sarpanch), Bodh Raj Palwan, Swarn Singh and Rakesh Khajuria (National Medalist).
Shiv Kumar Sharma presented welcome address, while vote of thanks presented by Prem Choudhary.
The proceedings of the function was conducted by Bansi Lal Tidyal and Mulkh Raj Sharma.
Wrestlers who secured Ist, 2nd, 3rd and 4th positions in seven weight categories were awarded with cash prize of Rs 2000, Rs1500, Rs 1000 and Rs 500 along with medals and certificates. They were also paid bus fare too and fro along with refreshment charges as per norms of J&K State Sports Council.
