J&K Police lifts title trophy

JAMMU, Apr 30: Jammu and Kashmir Police defeated Khalsa Warriors Amritsar by two goals to one (2-1) in a close contest of the ongoing 5th Sant Gurbaksh Singh Danna Memorial Hockey Tournament at KK Hakhu Astroturf Stadium, Gulshan ground, here.
J&K Police team scored the first goal in 10th minute of the match, however, Khalsa Warriors scored an equalizer in the 12th minute. At Half-time, both the teams were leveled at (1-1).
J&K Police managed to score a goal in the second half to win the match by (2-1) and lifted the title.
The match was officiated by Karanjeet Singh and S. Jageet Singh Godly, under the supervision of Tournament Director, Dalbir Metha.
The tournament was conducted under the patronage of Sant Tejwant Singh of Dera Sant Pura Danna.
S.  Jarnail Singh of Peaks Auto Ltd was the chief guest and he was accompanied by S. TS Wazir, President State Gurudwara Parbandak Board, Zorawar Singh Jamwal, Secretary Press Club and Ranjeet Kalra, Vice Chairman Sports Council Jammu as the guests of honour.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest threw light on the importance of sports in the present era, in which youth are lured by drugs and other allied evils.
A cash prize of Rs 31,000 was presented to the winning team, while a cash prize of Rs 21,000 was given to the runners-up team.
For their significant contribution in the success of  the tournament, the chief guest also honoured S. Balvinder Singh RTI Activist, S. Rajinder Singh Soodan, Ravi Singh, Divisional Sportrs Officer Jammu, Ashok Singh, S. Harvinder Pal Singh, S. Janak Singh, Azat Shatru, Sandeep Kour, S. Waryam Singh, S. Iqbal Singh, S. MS Reen, S. Jagpaul Singh and S. Indpal Singh.
Prominent among others present on the occasion were Amrik Singh Sason, Avtar Singh Khalsa, Narinder Singh Khalsa, Swaran Singh ARTO, Varinder Singh youth leader PDP, Manmohan Singh, Sharanjit Singh Shunty, Ranjot Singh Nalwa and Ravinder Singh.
