JAMMU, Apr 10: The Pharmacists in J&K are still struggling for seeking recognition by the Pharmacy Council of India and alleged that diplomas in the stream obtained from various institutes of State are not valid for seeking job outside the State.
Addressing a press conference here today State president Tofail Bazaz alleged that career of nearly 1000 Pharmacy candidates passing out from nearly 45 such institutes including privates in the State, is hanging in balance  as they are unable to apply outside the State for a Job. He said if an MBBS or BDS candidate applies for a job in Himachal Punjab, Delhi or anywhere in the country or even outside the country, his/her degree is valid as the course is recognized by Medical Council or Dental Council of India but unfortunately this Pharmacist diploma from J&K is not still recognized by the Pharmacy Council of India. Many other States have no such problem at all.
Mr Bazaz said that they had met the former Medical Education  Minister R S Chib who had recommended the same but the file was said to be lying with the Commissioner Secretary Health and Medical Education. They said a deputation had also met the then Health Minister Sham Lal Sharma but he did not show keen interest in this regard. Later, they met the Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad who gave full assurance and asked to get the case recommended from State Government and he will take care when the file reaches in Delhi. Mr Bazaz urged the sitting Medical Education Minister Taj Mohi-ud-din and Minister incharge Health Shabir Khan to take personal initiative and provide them justice by recommending the case to New Delhi.
Chairman of the body Shakeel Azad alleged that there was stagnation in the cadre and if a Pharmacist gets job, he retires as Senior Paharmacist. He said that Health authorities should amend rules to provide them promotional avenues.  He also demanded one time State Pharmacy Council registration to the inservice Pharmacist and unemployed Pharmacists. Mr Azad stressed for registration of all Para-Medical Institutions and their course duration by Union HRD Ministry besides filling up of vacant posts of Pharmacists.
On this Occasion S Dharmender Singh was declared elected as Jammu Provincial president of J&K Govt Pharmacists Association.
