J&K Pencak Silat team emerges runners-up in Nationals

SRINAGAR, May 9: The J&K Pencak Silat team of Sub-Junior and Junior boys and girls emerged overall runners-up in the National Pencak Silat Championship 2018 held at Indoor Sports Complex, Guwahati in Assam, recently.
22 States across the country participated in this mega event.
On the opening ceremony of the Championship, Dr Kirit P Solanki, Member of the Parliament and Chairman, Parliamentary Committee for SC & ST Commission was the chief guest on the occasion.
Assam emerged overall champion by winning 22 Gold, 20 Silver and 16 Bronze medals while as Jammu and Kashmir team got 17 Gold, 14 Silver and 26 Bronze medals and Manipur remained 2nd runners-up by winning 14 Gold, 5 Silver and 6 Bronze medals.
The Gold and Silver medalist of the Junior teams were shortlisted for the 3rd Asian Youth Games 2019 which are scheduled to be held at Jakarta in Indonesia.
The Championship was organised by Assam Pencak Silat Association under the aegis of Indian Pencak Silat Federation and under the banner of Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, Sports Authority of India and Sports Authority of Assam.
On the closing Ceremony of the Championship, MLA Guwahati was the chief guest and distributed the medals among the winners.
Mufti Hamid Yasin, Secretary General of Indian Pencak Silat Federation, Irfan Aziz Treasurer and other officials of the Federation and officials from the Sports Directorate of Assam Sports Authority witnessed the Championship.
