J&K men, women teams storm into semis

JAMMU, Feb 12: Remaining undefeated in the league cum knockout fixture, Jammu and Kashmir men and women teams stormed into the last four stages as the semifinals lineup has been drawn in the 27th Senior National Tennis Ball Cricket Championship, being organized by J&K Tennis Ball Cricket Association in collaboration with Jammu and Kashmir State Sports Council at different venues, here.
Now, in the women’s section, Himachal Pradesh, Goa, Uttar Pradesh and the hosts Jammu and Kashmir sealed berth in the semifinals, while in the men’s section, Uttar Pradesh, Goa, J&K and Himachal Pradesh entered into the last four stage.
Earlier, in the men’s quarterfinal, J&K thrashed Puducherry by 6 wickets. Puducherry scored a paltry total of 37 runs, while J&K chased the target in 3.2 overs Hinan was the top scorer with 18 runs, while Narrotam Singh took first hat-trick of the Tournament, scalping 4 wickets.
In other quarterfinal matches in men’s section, UP defeated Karnataka by 2 wickets, Goa got better of Western UP by 4 wickets and Himachal Pradesh outplayed Chhattisgarh by 34 runs.
In the quarterfinals o f the women section, HP defeated Karnataka by 27 runs. HP scored 61/2, while Goa bundled out for 35 runs; Goa drubbed Uttrakhand by 8 wickets, with Uttrakhand scoring 40 runs in 8 overs and Goa chasing the target without losing a wicket; Uttar Pradesh got better of Jharkhand and Jammu and Kashmir defeated Haryana by 7 wickets. Haryana scored 24 runs in 6.2 overs, while J&K chased the target in 3 overs losing one wicket in the process.
In pre-quarterfinal matches in men’s section earlier, UP beat Delhi by 60 runs, Goa trounced AP by 8 wickets, Chhattisgarh got better of Haryana by 7 wickets, J&K prevailed over Assam by 15 runs and Karnataka outplayed Tamil Nadu by 4 wickets.
‘Toss’ Official Tennis Ball of Sharma Sports Jalandhar is the ball being used in this Championship.
Around 40 teams, with 24 in men’s section and 16 in women’s section, drawn from across the Country are participating in this mega event, which will conclude tomorrow with prize distribution function at Mini Stadium Parade at 3 pm.
