J&K to host mega National events in Feb: Ansari

JAMMU, Jan 3: Department of Youth Services and Sports is all set to host School Nationals in two games of Cricket and Tennis Ball Cricket, under the aegis of School Games Federation of India in the month of February this year.
This was informed by Minister for Youth Services & Sports, IT, Technical Education, Molvi Imran Raza Ansari in a meeting which was chaired by him to take review of the activities of Youth Services and Sports Department. While applauding the efforts of all the ranks of YS&S Department in channelizing the sports talent of J&K youth in a positive direction, the Minister for Sports highlighted the importance of the Department and other such Departments, Institutions and Sports bodies in shaping the sports skills of the young boys and girls.
Laying special stress on the mass participation of school children in games and sports, the Minister said that tapping sports talent at tender age is the need of the hour, adding that ‘catch them young and coach tem’ formula is to be adopted.
Sports Minister further said that outstanding talents like Meenal Gupta, Tajamul Islam and others have shown that nothing is impossible if one has a will to achieve something bigger.
The Minister directed the senior officers of the Department to ensure the best possible arrangements of Boarding, Lodging, Food, Cleanliness and other facilities for the participants of forthcoming National events.
While briefing the Minister about the activities of the Department, Shiekh Fayaz said that conducting the recently held National Level Championship in Football at Jammu has infused a new enthusiasm in the players and is proving helpful in luring talented youth towards games and sports.
He also informed that the Department has been able to clinch 60 medals by the participation of young student players in various National Level Events during this financial year so far and is expecting more in the forthcoming sports events.
Besides other senior officials, Secretary Youth Services and Sports, Hilal Ahmed Parary was also present in the meeting.
